holy cross festival #1…


May is a festive month in the Philippines. Following Easter and towards the end of summer break, the streets in many areas around the country are filled with joyous celebrants of one festival or another.

In the Tejeros Barangay of Makati City, a suburb of Metro Manila in the Southern Luzon region of the Philippines, there was this night of fiesta for the Holy Cross.

Beginning on a Saturday evening, a procession of barefooted followers were led by motorcycles as they carried on their shoulders the statue of the cross through the crowds lining the streets…

By the time they made the rounds of the neighborhood, a change occurred that revealed the true dedication of the faithful…
