and now for something completely different…

A Filipino poses for the camera on a local street corner, his body covered with tattoos of various jailhouse groups encountered while incarcerated.

The higher a person was in society, the higher that person will be positioned on the food chain while behind bars. In some cases, in order to receive the scraps of the well-off or highly connected inmate, one has to be sure they are properly “connected”,  (just like in jails everywhere in the world). Jailhouse recognition and respect come from the markings carved on the body of the inmate, and the crude materials used for these inscriptions are not what one would find in any tattoo parlor (otherwise, I’m sure there would be fewer souls willing to mark themselves up for life).

Now, he’s a neighborhood protector of sorts..

Nonetheless, don’t do crime!

Until next time!
