…The U.S. Navy’s forward deployed aircraft carrier U.S.S. George Washington (CVN 73) made a 5 day goodwill port call in Manila Bay.
The nuclear powered carrier is part of the Navy’s combat ready force ordered to protect and defend the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and allies & partners in the Asia-Pacific region. Following a welcome reception hosted by the Rear Admiral of Task Force 70, the Secretary of the U.S. Navy, the ship’s commanding officer and the U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines, tours of the ship were arranged and many of the ship’s sailors and seamen invited family, friends and other guests to roam (under watchful eyes) the decks of the U.S.S. George Washington.
It was an awesome sight to see the world’s largest aircraft carrier, with the 16th busiest airport in the world topside on its flight deck, and a proud moment that found me giving thanks to the many uniformed men and women whose paths we crossed while touring the ship, for their service.
